I’m eating lunch and reading the New Yorker <\/em>article about G.K. Chesterton. He had some pithy thing to say about American men removing their hats in elevators.<\/p>\n

I ask Dawn across the table, “Do you think of elevators as rooms or vehicles?”<\/p>\n

She looks up at me, gives me a completely blank WTF stare.<\/p>\n

I laugh. “Is that a guy question?”<\/p>\n

“It’s not a Dawn question,” she tells me, rolling her eyes.<\/p>\n

The classic Guy Question comes from the movie Stand By Me<\/em>, where certain of the boys argue whether Superman could take on Mighty Mouse. There’s some dispute about this, since Mighty Mouse <\/em>is a cartoon, whereas Superman <\/em>is a live-action TV show.<\/p>\n

This also reminds me of how, when we landed at Dulles from Dublin, we had to ride one of those mobile lounge things from the B gates to the main terminal. Some young girls, let’s say 8 or 9 years old, were standing right in front of us. Their dad told them to hang on. They asked why and were surprised when he told them that we’d be moving.
